The Shelburne Falls during flood; the beautiful swirling stone is metamorphic gneiss, pushed and pulled under high pressures and temperatures
during tectonic plate collisions some 480 million years ago (early Paleozoic), when this part of MA was an island mass not yet part of the continent.
